Glass & Ash - Memorial Jewelry
Memorial jewelry or cremation jewelry is a piece of jewelry containing your loved one’s ashes. The ashes can be from a human or an animal companion. The pieces pictured here contain my beloved dog’s ashes.
The ashes are added when the glass is very hot, usually glowing. The molten glass is rolled in the ashes, or the ashes can be sprinkled on in a pattern. The ashes show up as bubbles in the glass.
For those who are not comfortable seeing the evidence of the ashes, beads can also be made to encase the ashes in opaque colors. You will know the ashes are there but they can’t be seen.
The amount of ashes required is very small and they are cared for with the greatest reverence. You only send me the small amount required. The rest of the ashes remain with you.
Any remaining ashes are returned to you with your finished jewelry.
You may choose the color and shape of the glass bead. You may opt for the ashes to be visible or not. You can also choose whether the bead is to be set in gold or silver jewelry. There are many options to choose from. I can offer suggestions or if you have something in mind I can work from your ideas.
Your bead(s) can be made into necklaces, bracelets, earrings, cell phone fob, bookmark—almost anything you can imagine. Most people choose a necklace so that the memorial glass can be close to their heart.
The glass bead(s) are fired in a kiln. This is called annealing. The process strengthens the glass and removes any stress the glass has gained during the initial creative process in the flame of the torch. It is glass, and any stress added may break the bead—such as dropping on cement, crushing, etc. If the bead(s) break due to stress from the creative process, I will replace them at no charge. If you have an accident and break your bead, I can offer you a discount to replace the broken piece.
